Finding A Good WYSIWYG Equation Editor

In the quest to create new and exciting internet products in this advancing technological age, all kinds of innovations are in existence.  One such innovation is the usage of mathematical software.  There have been many advances in this field – and one of these advances has been the implementation of what is known as a WYSIWYG equation editor.  WYSIWYG is an acronym meaning “What You See Is What You Get”, and was named from a 1970s catchphrase.   The basic goal of a general WYSIWYG editor is to help you create a page by eliminating the need for the knowledge of code language.  With these editors, you can control how things are coded, without the technical know-how otherwise necessary – and if you’re implementing mathematics into the script, here, then it’s certainly a good feeling having less jargon to fret over.

 When deciding to apply math to the WYSIWYG editor field, there are various programs from which to select the best one for your needs.  MathMagic is an application which you can download and use to create various equations by launching the Adobe InDesign app, then choosing a document, creating an equation, by selecting various boxes through the menu process.  You may also edit and change the baseline equations and any others, as well.  This application is available for a few hundred dollars, following a free trial to test the product.

 

There is also the MathML editor.  First created in 1999, MathML allows formula components to not only be presented, but separately defined, letting the manner of communicating content be very much up to the user.  If you have a page that is embedded with MathML, you can view it normally – but people with eye trouble can also get the content read to them through special plugins.

 

Perhaps one of the better known editors is actually named Equation Editor, and comes from Microsoft.  Equation Editor is included in every version of Microsoft Office, and is designed with the goal of creating scientific and mathematical equations with WYSIWYG.  Some versions include an input language known as Office Math Markup Language – which is one place that MathML gets its name.  OMML allows for markup such as comments, footnotes, and various formatting – all of which can be great help if putting together items for a math/science term paper or such.

 

So a WYSIWYG equation editor can be of great help to students, faculty and math and science experts alike.
